Dr. Adelina Voutchkova-Kostal is the Director of Sustainable Development at the American Chemical Society, where she leads the ACS Green Chemistry Institute, the Campaign for a Sustainable Future, and the Society's internal sustainability strategy and operations. She joined ACS in 2022 after a distinguished career as a Professor of Chemistry at George Washington University, where her research focused on greener catalytic processes and the design of safer chemicals using in silico hazard prediction. She holds a Ph.D. in organometallic chemistry from Yale University and a B.A. from Middlebury College.

Vice President, Sustainability & Social Business Innovation

As Vice President of the Sustainability & Social Business Innovation function at Merck, Jeffrey Whitford is focused on embedding sustainability across every part of the global Life Science business. From product design and packaging to supply chain, manufacturing, and social impact, his work helps drive new business models, operational resiliency, and cost efficiency. He has spearheaded the organization’s SCALE, SHAPE, SMASH and SHIFT frameworks to embed sustainability across the entire product lifecycle, operationalize circular packaging and close the loop on lab plastics.  

Jeffrey serves on the boards of the American Chemical Society’s Green Chemistry Institute, Change Chemistry and My Green Lab, and is a member of the Economist Impact CSO Leaders Club and Fast Company Executive Board.

Value Chain Sustainability Program Manager

Kevin Reyer leads value chain sustainability and the product carbon footprint program as Value Chain Sustainability Program Manager for the Sustainability & Social Business Innovation function at the Life Science business of Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany, which operates as MilliporeSigma in the U.S. and Canada. He manages the development and implementation of the product carbon footprint program as well as supply chain decarbonization workstreams to empower suppliers to help them reduce their operational footprint and promote knowledge-sharing across the value chain.

Over the past 10 years at Merck, Kevin has held various roles in Engineering, Quality, and Project Management. Kevin earned his bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering from the Worcester Polytechnic Institute and is a certified Project Management Professional through the Project Management Institute.

Perrine Froger is Head of Sustainability Strategy and Enablement for the Life Science business of Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany, which operates as MilliporeSigma in the U.S. and Canada. In her role, she serves as a strategic partner to the global Life Science business, helping to further embed sustainability across the organization and bring it closer to customers.

Perrine joined the company in 2001 and held various sales and marketing leadership roles guided by a rigorous customer-centric approach and commitment to embedding sustainability at the outset of innovation. Perrine earned her master's degree in biochemistry and biotechnology from the National Institutes of Science and Technology (Toulouse, France).
