David Hutchinson

General Counsel and Head of Legal Business Partners
David P. Hutchinson is General Counsel and Head of Legal for the Life Science business of Merck where he oversees all legal issues related to the development and implementation of the global Life Science sector's business strategy, corporate governance, human resources, general commercial matters and litigation (excluding patents and compliance). He is also the Managing Director for most of the Life Science legal entities in the United States.
David joined the organization in 2005 via Millipore as Assistant General Counsel, providing legal support for acquisitions, alliances, public securities compliance and reporting, corporate financing, governance and general commercial operations. Previously, he was a partner in the corporate departments of several Boston law firms, including Choate Hall & Stewart, where he counseled both public and privately-held corporations in the areas of corporate law, corporate finance, securities law, mergers and acquisitions, and venture capital. He began his career in finance, working primarily as Financial Manager for Digital Equipment Corporation (later Hewlett-Packard Company).
David received a Juris Doctor degree from Boston University's School of Law and a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School of Finance, with concentrations in Finance and International Business.
