Lithium tetrafluoroborate

Lithium tetrafluoroborate (LiBF₄) Technipur^® is primarily designed for R&D applications as an electrolyte salt in lithium-ion batteries, where it enhances ionic conductivity and electrochemical stability, thereby improving the performance and lifespan of the batteries. As an additive in electrolyte solutions, LiBF₄ stabilizes the solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) layer and reduces electrolyte degradation, enhancing overall battery performance. In a recent study, it has been observed that graphite//LiNi0.6Co0.2Mn0.2O₂ cells deliver the highest reversible capacity at low temperature (−20 °C), when LiBF₄-based ester electrolyte containing 1% lithium bis(trimethylsilyl) phosphate (LiTMSP) is used as an electrolyte. The other application of the product is in organic chemistry where LiBF₄ acts as a catalyst in various organic synthesis reactions, improving reaction efficiency and selectivity. For example, it is used in aza-Michael addition reactions with aromatic amines and electron-deficient alkenes.
