Anandamide is produced by the enzymatic hydrolysis of acyl phosphatidyl ethanolamides by phospholipase D.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Anandamide acts as a ligand for cannabinoid receptors. Anandamide possesses anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties. Its effect is regulated by cannabinoid CB1 and CB2 receptors.
