General description
VSA-2 is a semisynthetic saponin adjuvant derived from the naturally available Momordica saponin, designed to stimulate antigen-specific humoral and cellular immune responses. It is created by adding a terminal-functionalized side chain to the branched trisaccharide domain at the C3 position of Momordica saponin II (MS II), which is extracted from the seeds of Momordica cochinchinensis Spreng. When compared directly to the clinically validated saponin adjuvant QS-21, VSA-2 demonstrates comparable effectiveness in enhancing both humoral and cellular immune responses.
