General description
14:0 Diether PC (phosphocholine) is a glycerophospholipid having choline as the alcohol moiety, attached to the phosphate group. It has two tetradecyl chains attached to the sn-1 and sn-2 positions of the glycerol backbone by ether bonds.
Application
14:0 Diether PC or 1,2-di-O-tetradecyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine might be used:
- to prepare bicelle samples for solid-state NMR experiment
- to compose isotropically tumbling small bicelles, to study its size and morphology
- in lipid bicelles to reconstitute EmrE (secondary active transport protein)

The lack of carbonyl groups and the presence of ether bonds give the lipid interphase a different water organization around the phosphate groups that affects the compressibility and electrical properties of lipid membranes.
