General description

Note: 1 KU = 1000 units.
Recombinant, rabbit glycogen synthase kinase 3β expressed in E. coli. Glycogen synthase kinase 3β is a monomeric protein whose activity is independent of second messengers such as cAMP or IP3. Recent studies demonstrate that, like the dual specificity MAP kinase, it autophosphorylates on Ser, Thr, and Tyr. It phosphorylates several exogenous substrates, including protein phosphatase 1, the regulatory domain of protein kinase A, myelin basic protein, protein phosphatase inhibitor 2, c-jun, c-myb, c-myc, CREB, CREM, p90rsk, and microtubule-associated tau protein only on Ser and/or Thr, but not on Tyr residues. Plays a key role in Wnt and insulin signaling.
