General description
Histone H2B type 2-E (UniProt Q64524; also known as H2b 613, Histone 2 H2be) is encoded by the Hist2h2be gene (Gene ID 319190) in murine species. H2be is a replication-independent histone H2b variant expressed exclusively in olfactory chemosensory neurons. Levels of H2be are heterogeneous among olfactory neurons, but stereotyped according to the identity of the co-expressed olfactory receptor (OR). H2be is nearly undetectable in highly active neurons, but almost completely replaces H2b in inactive neurons. Changes in H2be expression affect olfactory function and OR representation in the adult olfactory epithelium. Genetic studies show that the deletion of H2be significantly extends the lifespan of neurons, whereas elevated H2be shortens their lifespan.

Epitope: N-terminal
KLH-conjugated linear peptide corresponding to the N-terminal sequence of mouse histone H2B type 2-E (H2be).
Application
Anti-Histone H2B type 2-E (H2be) Antibody is an antibody against Histone H2B type 2-E for use in Western Blotting, Dot Blot.

Western Blotting Analysis: 1.0 µg/mL from a representative lot detected H2B type 2-E (H2be) in brain tissue lysates from wild-type, but not from Hist2h2be-knock mice (Courtesy of Professor C. David Allis, The Rockefeller University, New York).
Dot Blot Analysis: Specificity of this polyclonal antibody was confirmed using the antiserum prior to purification. The antiserum detected the H2B type 2-E (H2be) immunogen peptide, but not peptides derived from human/murine/rat H2b and H3 N-terminal sequences (Courtesy of Professor C. David Allis, The Rockefeller University, New York).

Biochem/physiol Actions
Broad species reactivity expected based on sequence similarity.
The identity of an immunoreactive band of ~16 kDa detected by this polyclonal antibody using HeLa cell lysate has not been determined, but most likely corresponds to human histone H2B type 1-L (Histone H2B.c; Uniprot Q99880) whose N-terminal sequence (up to a.a. 39) is identical to that of murine histone H2B type 2-E.
