General description

TNK1 (thirty-eight-negative kinase 1) is a non-receptor tyrosine kinase that is widely used in fetal development signaling and more narrowly used in adult tissues and lymphohematopoietic system cells. TNK1 seems to have regulatory ability on whether TNFalpha activates NF-kappaB or apoptosis. TNK1 can also inhibit Ras function and tumor growth. Mice with a TNK1 deficiency often show unprompted tumor growth, including lymphomas and carcinomas. TNK1 downregulation has also been shown in a large number of humans with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma.
