General description
FKBP-8, also known as Peptidyl-prolyl cis-trans isomerase PPIase FKBP8, FKBP8, 38 kDa FK506-binding protein, 38 kDa FKBP, FKBP-38, hFKBP38, FK506-binding protein 8, FKBP-8, FKBPR38, Rotamase, is encoded by the gene name FKBP8 and FKBP38. FKBP-8 is in constitutively inactive PPiase, which becomes active when bound to calmodulin and calcium. Recent studies have shown that FKBP-8 may act as a chaperone for BCL2, by targeting BCL2 to the mitochondria and modulating its phosphorylation state. Furthermore, the BCL2/FKBP8/calmodulin/calcium complex may play a role in the binding of BCL2 to its targets. The active form of FKBP8 may therefore play a role in the regulation of apoptosis. FKBP-8 is expressed widely, with highest levels detected in brain. FKBP-8 is also highly abundant in the retina.
~60 kDa observed. The calculated molecular weight is 44 kDa, however FKBP-8 has been shown at ~53-62 kDa most likely due to post-translational modification.
