Application
Hepa 1-6 has been used to study the biodistribution of polymer hydrogel capsules for the delivery of therapeutics. It has also been used to evaluate the potential of interferon regulatory factor-1 (IRF-1) for cytokine gene therapy of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).
Biochem/physiol Actions
Derived from BW7756 tumour in a C57L mouse. Secretes several liver products including albumin, α-fetoprotein, α 1-antitrypin and amylase.

Preparation Note
DMEM + 2mM Glutamine + 10% Foetal Bovine Serum (FBS).
Split sub-confluent cultures (70-80%) 1:2 to 1:4 i.e. seeding at 2-5x10,000 cells/cm2 using 0.25% trypsin or trypsin/EDTA; 5% CO2; 37°C.
