Biochem/physiol Actions
Mitogen-activated protein kinase 7 (also known as MAP kinase 7) is an enzyme encoded by the MAPK7 gene in humans and is mapped to chromosome 17 band p11.2. It belongs to mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) family and regulates a wide variety of cellular processes such as proliferation, differentiation, necrosis, apoptosis and degeneration. MAPK7 is involved in degeneration of nucleus pulposus. Expression of MAPK7 may act as a valuable indicator for predicting lung cancer risk in smokers.

Mitogen/extracellular signal-regulated kinase-5 (MEK5)/extracellular signal-regulated protein kinase-5 (ERK5) pathway plays a pro-oncogenic role in tumourigenesis by anticell apoptosis, promoting cell proliferation and differentiation in response to extracellular stimuli. As overexpressed MEK5/ERK5 is involved in the development of lung cancer, we
