Application

p30 is an endogenous truncated form of p39 that associates with Cdk5 to form Nclk, which regulates neurotransmission, axon guidance, central nervous system (CNS) architecture, and pathogenesis. Therefore, p30 is useful in studying neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer′s, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, and Parkinson′s Disease.

Biochem/physiol Actions

P30 activates GST-Neuronal cyclin-dependent kinase 5 (Cdk5). It also associates with Cdk5 to form an activated neuronal Cdc2-like kinase (Nclk). Product P1246 is recombinant, from bovine and is expressed in E. coli.

Physical form

p30 is supplied in a solution of 25 mM Tris, pH 7.4, 1 mM DTT, and 30% glycerol. (0.5 μg protein/ 25 ul vial)

Preparation Note

Expressed as a GST fusion protein.

Other Notes

One unit will incorporate 1 picomole of phosphate into histone H1 peptide per minute at pH 7.2 at 30 °C.

We previously reported that a neuron-specific Cdk5 activator, p35nck5ai, was most prominent in the newborn rat brain. In the adult brain, the expression decreased in most regions except hippocampus and primary olfactory cortex. A novel neuron-specific Cdk5 activator, p39nck5ai, has

We examined the immunohistochemical localization of p39, the regulatory subunit of cyclin-dependent kinase 5 (Cdk5), in the adult rat brain. Cdk5 requires either p39 or p35 to assume its active form in the mammalian CNS. We developed a specific antibody

The ubiquitously expressed cyclin-dependent kinase 5 (cdk5) is essential for brain development. Bioactivation of cdk5 in the brain requires the presence of one of two related regulatory subunits, p35 and p39. Since either protein alone can activate cdk5, the significance
