FastWoRX for Faster and Greener Alternative to Liquid-Liquid Extraction

Many organic chemists routinely do reaction “work-up” with liquid-liquid extraction (LLE) to clean up after their reactions. After a reaction is quenched, an aqueous mixture containing organic products, inorganic byproducts and solvent is generated and LLE is commonly used to extract the organic products. The labor- and solvent-intensive nature of liquid-liquid extraction and its hazardous conditions have not changed fundamentally for 150 years. We have developed a substantially faster and greener technique for routine chemical reactions work-ups. Our innovative and unique patent-pending hydrophobic FastWoRX powders1, FastWoRX-S and FastWoRX-M, are used as an absorbent to extract organic products from a quenched aqueous reaction mixture. FastWoRX-S is our standard powder and FastWoRX-M is a magnetic powder. After filtration, the FastWoRX powder loaded with organic products can serve as a convenient input for flash chromatographic separation or other processing. With this technique, tedious and solvent-consuming liquid-liquid extractions are replaced by a simple filtration. Millipore Sigma is proud to offer this novel work-up product – FastWoRX - in collaboration with Faster Chemistry LLC.
