3,4-二甲基苯胺（3,4-DMA）已被用于研究氯仿和二氯甲烷中2,3-二氰基-1,4-萘醌（DCNQ）与3,4-二甲基苯胺之间的电子供体-受体（EDA）相互作用 。它也可被用于在甲醇中与MoO(X)2(dtc)2（X = Cl或Br；dtc = 二乙基二硫代氨基甲酸酯）反应生成[MoNAr(dtc)3]2[Mo6O19]或MoNAr(dtc)3]4[Mo8O26]类离子亚胺配合物。
