1,2-己二醇作为辅助表面活性剂，可用于修饰十二烷基硫酸钠胶束。1,2-己二醇在超临界CO2 的溶解度已被报道。它具有形成胶束状聚集物的自缔合倾向。
应用
1,2-己二醇可用于钌催化的从尿素合成恶唑烷酮。在钌氢化物的催化下，它可以与苯胺脱水偶联，形成取代吲哚和喹啉产物。
