Cross-Reactivity between C5b-9 and other complement proteins found in MILLIPLEX® Human Complement Expanded panel 1 (Cat. No. HCMPEX1-19K) and MILLIPLEX® Human Complement Panel 2 (Cat. No. HCMP2MAG-19K) was tested. There was no or negligible cross-reactivity between the antibody pair in this panel for any of the analytes tested.

Features and Benefits

  • Targeted Measurement: Specifically designed to quantify the complement component C5b-9, also known as the membrane attack complex (MAC), providing focused analysis on a critical component of the complement system.
  • In-Depth Insights into Complement Activation: By quantifying C5b-9, researchers can gain valuable insights into the complement activation process and its role in immune responses and various diseases.
  • Support for Clinical and Research Applications: This kit is valuable for both clinical research and basic science studies, aiding in the understanding of complement-related diseases and therapeutic interventions.
  • Reliable Data for Complement Research: The inclusion of internal quality controls ensures that results are consistent and reproducible, which is essential for studies focused on the complement system and its implications in health and disease.

General description

The complement system consists of many plasma proteins that assist, or complement, the ability of phagocytic cells and antibodies to clear pathogens. Although it is part of the innate immune system, it can be recruited and activated by the adaptive immune system. The complement proteins and glycoproteins that are synthesized primarily by hepatocytes normally circulate as inactive pro-proteins. Once stimulated the result of the cascade is a massive amplification of response and activation of the membrane attack complex (C5b-9), which forms a transmembrane pore causing osmotic lysis of target cells. The complement pathway may also form soluble C5b-9, as well as intermediate isoforms, stabilized by regulatory proteins. These soluble complexes are unable to insert into the lipid membrane, and their role in complement pathways is an area of ongoing research.

Application

MILLIPLEX® Qualified assays undergo rigorous assay development, verification, and Quality Control testing to achieve optimal performance. Analyze C5b-9 in human serum, plasma, and cell culture supernatants.

Analytes included: C5b-9

Assay Characteristics: Refer to kit protocol for assay cross-reactivity, sensitivity, precision, and accuracy.
