Preparation Note

Below 35-40 °C, gelatin swells in and absorbs 5-10 times its weight of water to form a gel. Gelatin is more soluble in hot than in cold water. If visible floaters or cloudiness is evident, solution may be warmed in 45°C water bath for 10 minutes to achieve clear, colorless solution.

0.15 mM CaCl2, 141 mM NaCl, 0.5 mM MgCl2, 0.1% gelatin, 1.8 mM sodium barbital and 3.1 mM barbituric acid, pH 7.3-7.4.
