1-Iodopropane can be used for the alkylation of pyrrole by reacting with potassium salts of pyrrole to synthesize 1-n-propylpyrrole. It can also be used as an n-alkyl iodide model for the vibrational studies.

Suggested a new blocking method for DNA microarray: 1-iodo-propane. We compared the difference between the two block reagents and the blocking results in different blocking time. The results showed that 1-I-propane is batter-blocking reagent than succinic anhydride in DNA chip.
