Application

Sodium tetraborate, also known as borax(Na2B4O7), can be employed as a catalyst:
  • In the chemoselective oxidation of alkyl and aryl sulfides to sulfoxides and sulfones using H2O2 as the oxidant.
  • In the synthesis of pyridines, dienes, anilines, and dihydropyrano[3,2-c]chromenes via Knoevenagel condensation and Michael addition pathway.
  • In thiolysis of 1,2-epoxides to β-hydroxy sulfides.
