General description

Sulforhodamine B (SRB) is a bright-pink aminoxanthene dye. The sulforhodamine B (SRB) assay is extensively used for in vitro cytotoxicity screening. SRB binds to the protein constituents of the cells in a stoichiometric manner. Thus, the amount of dye extracted from stained cells is directly proportional to the cell mass. SRB can also be used for cell density determination.

Application

Sulforhodamine B has been used as a dye in the MCF-7 (human breast adenocarcinoma cell line) cell proliferation assay.
