General description

4-[(S,S)-2,3-Epoxyhexyloxy]phenyl 4-(decyloxy)benzoate is a ferroelectric liquid crystal. Effect of polymer networks on its smectic-C* phase was studied by high resolution X ray diffraction. Investigations of 4-[(S,S)-2,3-Epoxyhexyloxy]phenyl 4-(decyloxy)benzoate by a polarizing microscope, optical dispersion and UV-VIS spectroscopy have been conducted.

High-resolution x-ray diffraction was used to investigate how polymer networks affect the tilt angle in the smectic-C* (SmC*) phase of the ferroelectric liquid crystal 4-[(S,S)-2,3-epoxyhexyloxy]-phenyl-4-(decyloxy)-benzoate (W46 or EPHDBPE). Blends comprising W46, a monomer, and a photoinitiator were prepared and photopolymerized
