General description

Tin(II) sulfate, also known as stannous sulfate (SnSO4), is an inorganic compound that appears as a white to off-white or light yellow crystalline/powder solid. It is widely used in various industrial processes due to its reducing properties and ability to deposit tin in electroplating applications. We offer Tin(II) sulfate with a purity of ≥99.9%, with very low impurities of Chloride ≤ 50 ppm, NO3 <50 ppm, and Acid insoluble<50 ppm.

Application

Tin(II) sulfate, ≥99.9% trace metals basis can be used as an electrolyte additive in lead acid batteries. In an experiment it has been observed that an electrolyte additive of SnSO4 could effectively decrease PbO2 particle size in the positive active materials of the teardown battery at the end of charging procedure indicating an electrolyte additive of SnSO4 have a positive influence on restraining larger particles of irreversible sulfation in charge/discharge cycles of battery testing. Another experient has revealed that Sn2+ ions increase the area of hydrated (gel) zones in positive active material (PAM), thus improving the electrochemical activity of the positive electrode. Therefore, outstanding cycling performances are achieved at 40% and 60% depth of discharge (DoD).[3] It can be used to prepare Tin oxide nanoparticles which are widely used in battery electrodes, fabrication of supercapacitors and opto-electronic devices. [3] The addition of SnSO4 to the electrolyte can enhance the overall ionic conductivity of the solution, which is crucial for efficient electrochemical reactions. This makes it useful in applications where high conductivity is essential for performance. In addition, Tin(II) sulfate can be used in the electrosynthesis of Cu2ZnSnS4 (CZTS) thin films for solar cell application[4]. It can be used to synthesize ternary Cu-Sn-S chalcogenides such as Cu2SnS3, Cu5Sn2S7 and Cu3SnS4 by successive ionic layer adsorption and reaction (SILAR) method[5]. SnSO4 can also be used in the preparation of tin (IV) oxide (SnO2) nanoparticles which are widely used in battery electrodes, fabrication of supercapacitors and opto-electronic devices.

Features and Benefits

With a purity of ≥99.9% and minimal trace metal impurities, the product is ideal for use in sensitive processes where contamination must be strictly controlled. The high purity ensures consistent performance, which is essential in research and production environments that require reproducibility and precision. Low acid content address the issue of accelerated corrosion of battery components, dissolution of metal components in rechargeable battery research.
