General description

Interleukin-23 (IL-23) is a cytokine that plays a critical role in the immune system by promoting the differentiation and maintenance of Th17 cells, which are essential for the body′s defense against pathogens. It is composed of two subunits, p19 and p40, and is primarily produced by activated dendritic cells and macrophages. IL-23 is implicated in the pathogenesis of various inflammatory and autoimmune diseases, including psoriasis and inflammatory bowel disease, by driving chronic inflammation and sustaining the immune response.
