General description

96 well assay
Brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) is a protein made by neuronal cells critical for the growth and functioning of neurons as well as binding at synapses to improve signal strength between neurons. While sufficient levels of BDNF promote the function and growth of brain cells and neurons, a decrease in BDNF levels can lead to impaired neurological function and is associated with diseases such as Alzheimer′s, epilepsy, schizophrenia and depression.

The SMC® Human Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF) High Sensitivity Immunoassay Kit contains all reagents required to perform the assay. This assay takes advantage of a standard immunoassay workflow configured in a standard plate format.
Assay protocols are similar to existing sandwich ELISA methods with two key differences:
1) Elution buffer disrupts the sandwich, separating the labeled detection antibody for quantification.
2) The Erenna and SMCxPRO® immunoassay systems detect analytes using Single Molecule Counting (SMC®) technology.

Specificity

Cross Reactivity:
Cross reactivity and interference of ProBDNF was tested in this assay.
The assay shows 1.2% cross reactivity with ProBDNF. Serum and plasma spiked with ProBDNF show an average 4.4% interference.

Accuracy:
  • Minimum of 5 EDTA plasma samples spiked with average recovery of 96% with a range of 81-108%
  • Minimum of 5 serum samples spiked with average recovery of 90% with a range of 71-98%
  • Minimum of 5 cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) samples spiked with average recovery of 98% with a range of 83-108%
