General description

Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF) is a crucial protein involved in the development, maintenance, and survival of neurons in the brain. As a member of the neurotrophin family, BDNF promotes neuronal growth, differentiation, and synaptic plasticity, which are essential for learning and memory. It is primarily expressed in the brain, particularly in regions such as the hippocampus, cortex, and basal forebrain.

BDNF plays a significant role in neurological disorders and neurodegenerative diseases. Reduced levels of BDNF have been associated with conditions like Alzheimer′s disease, Parkinson′s disease, and depression. Low BDNF levels can lead to neuronal atrophy, impaired synaptic function, and increased vulnerability to neuroinflammation, exacerbating disease progression. Conversely, enhancing BDNF signaling has been shown to promote neuroprotection, improve cognitive function, and support recovery in animal models of neurodegeneration.

Understanding BDNF′s function and its involvement in neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative processes is crucial for developing therapeutic strategies aimed at enhancing BDNF signaling to improve outcomes for neurological disorders.

Features and Benefits

  • Ultra-Sensitive Measurement: Accurately measures BDNF at femtogram/mL concentrations in serum, plasma, or CSF.
  • Enhanced Signal Clarity: Improves the signal-to-noise ratio, minimizing background noise for consistent assay results.
  • Intuitive Workflow: Employs a familiar sandwich immunoassay design, facilitating easy adoption for researchers trained in ELISA.
  • Ready for Automation: Designed to integrate with automated liquid handling systems, streamlining processes and boosting laboratory productivity.
  • Comprehensive Support: Supported by experienced field scientists and technical experts.
