General description

IL-18 has been shown to be a pro-inflammatory cytokine that induces interferon-gamma. IL-18 has also been found to have the ability to activate nuclear factor-kappaB (NFkB), express Fas ligand, induce CC and CXC chemokines, and also has been found to increase the production of viable human immunodeficiency virus. IL-18 has been linked to syndromes displaying symptoms of chronic low-levels of inflammation. IL-18 also seems to have some control over homeostasis and behavior in the central nervous system as well as neuroinflammatory activity.
~22 kDa observed

Immunogen

KLH-conjugated linear peptide corresponding to human Interleukin-18.

P2X7 receptor (P2X7R), trigger of acute inflammatory responses via the NLRP3 inflammasome, is hyperfunctioning in patients with Sjögren's syndrome (SS), where it stimulates IL-18 production. Some patients with SS develop a mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (MALT-NHL). To prospectively evaluate

"Toll-like Receptors (TLRs) are transmembrane proteins that are expressed on various immune cells. The extracellular N-terminal region of TLRs recognizes specific pathogen components. At least 13 different members of TLR family have been identified that detect different pathogen associated molecular patterns (PAMPs), including lipopolysaccharides, flagellin, bacterial CpG DNA, and viral RNA and DNA. Recognition of PAMPs by TLRs is considered as a key process for the induction of an inflammatory response."
