Application

17β-Estradiol has been used to treat primary rat cortical neurons, to investigate its effects on neuronal responses to interleukin (IL)-6 and soluble IL-6 receptor treatment. It has also been administered subcutaneously to ovariectomized female mice to investigate its effects on Crhr1 and Esr1 mRNA expression in the nucleus accumbens.

General description

17β-Estradiol is a potent estrogen, a steroid hormone, involved in reproductive and endocrine functions in mammals. It binds to estrogen receptors (ERα and ERβ) to regulate gene expression, influencing reproductive functions such as the proliferation of the uterine endometrium, ovulation, and maintenance of pregnancy. Additionally, 17β-Estradiol is involved in modulating metabolic processes, including lipid metabolism and insulin sensitivity, and exerts neuroprotective effects in the central nervous system.
