General description

Catalyzes the isomerization of peroxynitrite (ONOO) to nitrate (NO3) under physiological conditions and at realistic dose-derived concentrations (Kcat = 2.2 x 106 M-1s-1). Effectively prevents the oxidation of lipid components by peroxynitrite. Also catalytically decomposes superoxide radicals (O2·). Irradiation of the aqueous solution at 335 nm releases hydroxyl (OH·) radicals. FeTMPyP can also serve as a potential for drug detoxification of reactive oxygen species (ROS).

Biochem/physiol Actions

Cell permeable: no
