Description

General description

Autoclavable. Stable over a wide pH range at 37°C for up to 15 days.

Broad-spectrum cell culture antibiotic that is non-toxic to viruses and mammalian cells at anti-bacterial and anti-mycoplasmal concentrations. Its extended stability and the slow development of bacterial resistance allow long-term virus and tissue culture studies. Composed of three closely related compounds: gentamycin C₁, C_1a, and C₂. Reduces sphingomyelinase activity in fibroblasts. Molecular weight of C₂ free base = 463.0.

M.W. 463.0 (C₂, free base).

Preparation Note

Following reconstitution, aliquot and freeze (-20°C). Stock solutions are stable for up to 1 year at -20°C. Material is autoclavable. Stable over a wide pH range at 37°C for up to 15 days.
