General description

A cell-permeable, 8-prenyl flavone that is shown to induce differentiation of mouse embryonic stem (ES) cells into neuronal cells and astrocytes, at 100 nM. It is shown to elicit the down-regulation of p38 and JNK phosphorylation, and the up-regulation of ERK phosphorylation. Co-treatment with GGTI-298 (1000 nM), a Geranylgeranyltransferase I Inhibitor (Cat. No. 345883) selectively abolishes the IBA- but not Retinoic Acid-induced neuronal differentiation, which suggests that the differentiation inducing effect may involve protein prenylation.
