General description

Pepstatin A, a pentapeptide containing two non-proteinogenic statin residues, is a highly effective inhibitor of cathepsin D (CTSD). It also inhibits other aspartic proteases at nanomolar concentrations (with a Ki of 10-10 M). Pepstatin A is commonly utilized for mapping, purifying, or titrating CTSD. Pepstatin A is found to block the invasion of C. albicans into corneocytes in mice with cutaneous candidiasis and inhibit aspartyl proteases.

Application

Pepstatin A has been used as a negative control in enzymatic activity assays to inhibit CTSD activity in lysosomal studies involving chondrocytes.

Features and Benefits

  • Primary Target: aspartic proteases
  • Reversible: yes
