General description

Luciferin 4-monooxygenase (UniProt: P08659; also known as EC: 1.13.12.7, Luciferase) is a peroxisomal enzyme that belongs to the ATP-dependent AMP-binding enzyme family. It catalyzes the production of oxyluciferin from luciferin in an ATP and magnesium dependent reaction and releases a photon of light when oxyluciferin returns to the ground state. This reaction proceeds in two steps where the first step involves adenylation of luciferin and in the second step luciferase acts as an oxygenase on adenyl-luciferin to produce oxyluciferin and carbon dioxide, the decay of oxyluciferin producing a photon of light of 562 nm. Luciferase from the firefly is commonly used in reporter assay where the total light emission is proportional to the luciferase activity of the sample.
~58 kDa observed; 60.75 kDa calculated. Uncharacterized bands may be observed in some lysate(s).

Immunogen

Epitope: unknown
GST-tagged full length recombinant firefly luciferase.
