Gene Information

human ... LAMC1(3915)

General description

Laminin subunit gamma-1 (UniProt P11047; also known as Laminin B2 chain, Laminin-1/-2/-3/-4/-6/-7/-8/-9/-10/-11 subunit gamma, S-laminin subunit gamma, S-LAM gamma) is encoded by the LAMC1 (also known as LAMB2) gene (Gene ID 3915) in human. Laminins are basement membrane, extracellular matrix glycoproteins composed of alpha, beta, and gamma heterotrimeric chains. Different combinations of five alpha chains, three beta chains, and three gamma chains form the 15 known laminin heterotrimers, nine of which contain the gamma-1 chain: Laminin-1/EHS (α1β1γ1), Laminin-2/Merosin (α2β1γ1), Laminin-3/S-laminin (α1β2γ1), Laminin-4/S-merosin (α2β2γ1), Laminin-6/K-laminin (α3β1γ1), Laminin-7 (α3β2γ1), Laminin-8 (α4β1γ1), Laminin-9 (α4β2γ1), Laminin-10 (α5β1γ1), Laminin-11 (α5β2γ1). The gamma chain is initially produced with a signal peptide (a.a. 1-33), the removal of which yields the 1576-amino acid mature protein (a.a. 34-1609) with 11 EGF-like domains and a Laminin IV type A domain. Laminins are associated with type IV collagen networks via entactin, fibronectin, and perlecan. They also bind to cell membranes through integrin receptors and other plasma membrane molecules, such as the dystroglycan glycoprotein complex and Lutheran blood group glycoprotein. Laminins play important roles in cell attachment and differentiation, cell shape and movement, maintenance of tissue phenotype and survival.

Specificity

Detects the laminin γ1 component of Laminin-1/EHS (α1β1γ1), Laminin-2/Merosin (α2β1γ1), Laminin-3/S-laminin (α1β2γ1), Laminin-4/S-merosin (α2β2γ1), Laminin-6/K-laminin (α3β1γ1), Laminin-7 (α3β2γ1), Laminin-8 (α4β1γ1), Laminin-9 (α4β2γ1), Laminin-10 (α5β1γ1), Laminin-11 (α5β2γ1).

Immunogen

Epitope: Center of the laminin cross.
Human placenta laminin pepsin digest.
