Gene Information
human ... TREM1(54210)
General description
Triggering receptor expressed on myeloid cells 1 (TREM-1) is a membrane bound protein and secreted protein that is expressed by most cells in many tissues including liver, lung, spleen, lymph node, heart, and even spinal cord in response to bacterial and fungal infections. TREM-1 stimulates neutrophil and monocyte mediated inflammatory responses. TREM-1 also triggers pro-inflammatory chemokines and cytokines as well as increases surface expression of cell activation markers like CD11, thus TREM-1 acts as an amplifier of inflammatory responses in response to these pathogens. TREM-1 similarly is a potent LPS response factor and its expression is upregulated by LPS released by bacterial and fungal infections, and thus TREM-1 is a critical mediator of septic shock caused by such infections.
