Gene Information
chicken ... MNR2(395769)
General description
Homeodomain protein (UniProt: Q9YHY8) is encoded by the MNR2 gene (Gene ID: 395769) in chicken. MNR2 is a member of an evolutionarily conserved subgroup of Mnx class HD proteins that are characterized by a conserved homeodomain of about 60 amino acids. This domain facilitates DNA binding, allowing the protein to interact with specific regulatory regions of target genes. In vertebrates, MNR2 is specifically expressed in all somatic motoneurons and is necessary to distinguish motoneurons from interneurons, in part by repressing interneuron-specific gene expression. It is expressed by all motor neuron progenitors, but its expression is rapidly switched off in many postmitotic motor neurons. The onset of MNR2 expression is shown to occur at the time that motor neuron progenitors attain independence from Shh signaling. It is induced rapidly by Shh, prior to the expression of other somatic motor neuron transcription factors. MNR2 appears to regulate motor neuron identity by acting as a transcriptional repressor, indicating its key role of transcriptional repression in motor neuron specification. Clone 81.5C10 is suitable for use in multiple applications, including flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry, immunocytochemistry, and immunofluorescence and displays reactivity in multiple species.
