Dual Confirmation of E. coli ID Membrane is used for rapid detection & confirmation of Escherichia coli in water and food samples, based on a chromogenic and fluorogenic method. Dual Confirmation of E. coli ID Membranes are substrate-carrying membranes used for rapid identification and differentiation of E. coli through characteristic color reactions while placed on the agar surface post-incubation. The membranes contain chromogenic substrates X-Gal, which serve as the basis for differentiation by color. E. coli cleaves X-Gal giving a blue coloration to the colony and MUG, which results in fluorescence under UV light, making it a dual detection method. The color can be visually detected on the membrane.
