General description
Hemoglobin is present in the red-blood corpuscles (RBCs) of vertebrates. It is composed of a globular structure with four α-β sub-units.
Application
Hemoglobin from bovine blood has been used as a supplement in tryptone yeast extract salts and glucose (TYESG) agar for performing extracellular proteolytic activity of Flavobacterium psychrophilum. It has also been used as a standard in Raman spectrometry.
The solubility of α-elastin has been applied to construction of elastin-mimetic biomaterials.
Biochem/physiol Actions
Oxygen transporter, NO scavenger
Oxygen transporter. The Fe2+/Fe3+ balance is a physiological indicator of blood oxygenation; deoxygenated hemoglobin accessorizes a feedback loop by reducing nitrite to NO, a vasodilator which enhances blood flow to oxygen-deprived tissues.
Packaging
1 piece contains 100 g hemoglobin powder
Disclaimer
Since native hemoglobin is readily oxidized in air, these preparations may be predominantly methemoglobin.

Synthetic dyes are a very efficient class of dyes that are ingested or come into contact with the skin from numerous sources (cosmetics, textiles, leather, paper, and drugs). An important component of their safety profile is the interactions that they

Elastin is a critical biochemical and biomechanical component of vascular tissue. However, elastin is also highly insoluble and therefore difficult to process into new biomaterials. We present a simple approach for synthesizing elastin-based materials from two commercially available and water-soluble

Flavobacterium psychrophilum causes bacterial cold-water disease in wild and aquaculture-reared fish and is a major problem for salmonid aquaculture. The mechanisms responsible for cold-water disease are not known. It was recently demonstrated that the related fish pathogen, Flavobacterium columnare, requires

Coupling between neural activity and hemodynamic responses is important in understanding brain function, interpreting brain-imaging signals, and assessing pathological conditions. Tissue state is a major factor in neurovascular coupling and may alter the relationship between neural and hemodynamic activity. However
