General description

Citropten is found in the essential oil of bergamot. It is a photomutagenic and phototoxic compound which is used to stimulate human skin pigmentation.

Application

Citropten may be used as a reference standard in the determination of citropten in perfumes and sun-tan cosmetics using high performance liquid chromatography coupled with ultraviolet detector (HPLC-UV).
