General description

Sodium 5,5-diethylbarbiturate (sodium barbital) is the sodium salt of 5,5-diethylbarbituric acid. Its crystal structure has been investigated by X-ray diffraction studies. Cell parameters have been reported as, a = 6.724 (1), b = 11.950 (2), c =12.129 (2)Å, Z = 4, Dm = 1.408g/cm-3.

Application

Sodium 5,5-diethylbarbiturate may be used to compose barbital buffer (pH 7.4), Michaelis buffer (pH 7.4) and veronal-buffered saline.
