General description

Dimethyl sebacate is a dicarboxylic acid ester, which is generally prepared by the esterification of sebacic acid. It can be used as a precursor for the preparation of many other sebacates, in polymer syntheses, and finds major application as a plasticizer.

Application

Dimethyl sebacate may be used as an analytical standard for the determination of the analyte in poly(vinyl chloride) gasket seals, oily foodstuffs and nitrocellulose-base propellants by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and gas-liquid chromatography (GLC) techniques.
