General description

Magnesium chloride is widely used in polymerase chain reactions (PCR) buffers to supply magnesium ions. The concentration of Mg2+ is the most critical parameter that impacts both the efficiency and specificity of PCR when total genomic DNA is used, synthesis of long products, or during multiplex reactions. Elevated concentrations of Mg2+ enhance the stability of primer-template duplexes and the efficiency of amplification.

Application

Magnesium chloride solution has been used as a component of nuclei isolation buffer for in situ fixations and isolation of nuclei from Kupffer cells (or other liver cells).
Magnesium chloride solution has been used in the reaction mix of reverse transcriptase enzyme, PFV RT. It has been used in the preparation of artificial cerebrospinal fluid (ACSF).
