General description

δ-Tocotrienol can be found in coconut oil, palm oil, and cereal grains such as barley, oats, wheat and rye.
δ-Tocotrienol is known as one of the homologs of Vitamin E.

Application

δ-Tocotrienol may be used as an analytical reference standard for the determination of δ-tocotrienol in:
  • Food samples of vegetable origin by high performance liquid chromatography-fluorescene detection (HPLC-FLD).
  • Chicken meat samples by LC-FLD.
  • Cereals by normal phase HPLC-FLD.
  • Rice bran samples by one-step equilibrium extraction method coupled to reversed-phase HPLC combined with dual wavelength ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) detector.

Present study aimed to elucidate the suppression of serum lipids by gamma- and delta-tocotrienol (γδT3). The lipid-lowering effects of γδT3 were investigated using HepG2 liver cell line, hypercholesterolemic mice and borderline-high cholesterol patients. In-vitro results demonstrated two modes of action.

Changes in immune function believed to contribute to a variety of age-related diseases have been associated with increased production of nitric oxide (NO). We have recently reported that proteasome inhibitors (dexamethasone, mevinolin, quercetin, δ-tocotrienol, and riboflavin) can inhibit lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced
