Brucella Agar

Brucella Agar is a nutrient-rich culture medium formulated to support the luxuriant growth of a variety of fastidious bacteria, including Brucella species, Streptococci, Pneumococci,Listeria, Neisseria meningitidis, and Haemophilus influenzae. The medium contains peptic digest of animal tissue and casein enzymic hydrolysateas sources of organic nitrogen. Yeast extract provides essential vitamin Bcomplex, while dextrose serves as the carbohydrate source. Sodium chloride maintains osmotic balance, and sodium bisulfite is included, to enhance bacterial growth. The presence of hemin and Vitamin K1 supports the growth ofother fastidious bacteria such as the Bacteroides species and the gram-positivespore bearer Clostridium spp.

Brucella Agar is widely used in clinical microbiology and research laboratories for cultivating and isolating fastidious pathogenic bacteria such as Brucella and other related organisms. It is suitable for diagnostic purposes, antimicrobial susceptibility testing, and research requiring robust growth of these bacteria under controlled lab conditions in clinical microbiology, food and beverage industries.

Suspend 43.1 g of Brucella Agar with Hemin and Vitamin K1 in 1000 ml of distilled water. Boil to dissolve the medium completely. Sterilize by autoclaving at 15 lbs. pressure (121°C) for 15 minutes. Cool to 50°C and aseptically add sterile 5% v/v defibrinated sheep blood.
