Guanidine thiocyanate has been used:
- as a denaturing agent to study its effects on surface activity of globular protein
- for the extraction of total RNA from primary hepatocytes
- as a component of the incubating buffer for extraction of DNA from human bone
- as a component of the guanidine thiocyanate (GITC) lysis buffer for extraction of elephant shark DNA
- as a component of lysis solution for extraction of RNA from rat pancreatic tissues
Chaotropic agent and strong denaturant; solubilizes cells.
