General description

Phenol is a predominant pollutant in the environment. Phenol is also used in cosmetic and pharmaceutical industry. Phenol pollutes water bodies and inhibits the γ-amino butyric acid receptor (GABAAR)-coupled chloride ATPase function in the fish brain.

Application

Phenol has been used:
  • in the preparation chromotrope 2R staining solution.
  • as a reagent in α-amylase inhibitory activity.
  • as a standard in calibration of NMR spectra.
