General description
Pyrocatechol sulfate is a phenolic metabolite found in circulating human plasma. Its circulating levels appear to be connected to certain food (berries) ingestion and gut microbiota condition. Pyrocatechol sulfate is a potential urinary biomarker of kidney function and dialytic clearance, whole grain intake, and habitual coffee drinking. Pyrocatechol sulfate as well as other phenolic sulfates appear to modulate various biological functions including brain health and cardiomyocyte beating.

The diagnosis and prognosis of chronic kidney disease (CKD) currently relies on very few circulating small molecules, which can vary by factors unrelated to kidney function. In end-stage renal disease (ESRD), these same small molecules are used to determine dialysis

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a public health concern, and the third cause of death worldwide. Several epidemiological studies and experimental approaches have demonstrated that consumption of polyphenol-enriched fruits and vegetables can promote cardioprotection. Thus, diet plays a key role in

Multicellular organisms have co-evolved with complex consortia of viruses, bacteria, fungi and parasites, collectively referred to as the microbiota1. In mammals, changes in the composition of the microbiota can influence many physiologic processes (including development, metabolism and immune cell function)
