General description

Laminaribiose, also known as 2-O-alpha-D-glucopyranosyl-D-mannobiose, is a non-digestible disaccharide composed of two β-(1→3) glucose units connected by an alpha-1,2-glycosidic bond. It is naturally found as a component of laminarin, a molecule present in brown algae. Laminaribiose is significant in microbiome research due to its prebiotic properties, which aid in the synthesis of complex carbohydrates such as cellulose and hemicellulose.
