General description

Ethanol is a highly combustible colorless liquid. It reacts readily with various reagents. It oxidizes to afford acetaldehyde or acetic acid. It undergoes reaction with carboxylic acid and derivatives to form esters, with aldehydes and ketones to afford acetals and ketals, respectively. The monitoring of ethanol levels is very important in control of fermentation processes and for the validation of different compositions of alcoholic beverages.

Application

Ethanol may be used for the deposition of coating of irgasan on to the surface of PVC (polyvinyl chloride)-grafted-polyacrylic acid. It may be used in the preparation of stable concentrated “polymeric” sols of Zn and Ti, having Zn/Ti in the ratios between 2 and 0.5.
