General description

Maleic acid is a dicarboxylic acid. It can be synthesized from crotonaldehyde.

Application

Maleic acid may be used in the synthesis of (R,S)-malic acid and fumaric acid. It may be employed as an anionic monomer in the preparation of superswelling acrylamide (AAm)/maleic acid (MA) hydrogels.†
