Azurine-crosslinked-curdlan, prepared by dyeing and cross linking highly purified curdlan from Alacligenes faecalis, is insoluble in buffered solutions, but rapidly hydrates to form gel particles which are readily and rapidly hydrolyzed by endo-1,3-β-D-glucanase or laminarinase releasing soluble dye-labeled fragments.
